WHO ARE WE?
Somporker Noya Setu is mostly focused on promoting the rights of transgender and other gender-diverse communities and marginalized people for advocacy policy implementation, formulation, and changes. SNS emerged in October 2010 as a community-based organization (CBO) with a view to promote and uphold the human rights of transgender, sex workers, Hijra, and other gender-diverse communities. Our inspiration is that we are ‘human beings’, so we are entitled to enjoy all the rights and opportunities other persons have. Since its inception, SNS has been accomplishing various projects, events, and consultancy services in partnership with a number of organizations including BRAC University’s School of Public Health and BRAC Institute of Educational Development; CREA (Creating Resources for Empowerment and Action Inc.), Action AID Bangladesh, Oxfam Bangladesh, Bandhu Social Welfare Society, Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (Blast), Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, Women’s Fund Asia.

ACTIVITIES AND IMPACT
Since its inception, SNS has been accomplishing various projects, events, and consultancy services in partnership with a number of organizations that including the School of Public Health, BRAC University; BRAC Institute of Educational Development, BRAC University; CREA (Creating Resources for Empowerment and Action Inc.); Action AID Bangladesh; Oxfam Bangladesh and Bandhu Social Welfare Society. All these projects and events were focused on: (i) consultancy Services to the short course titled “Lens on Gender and Diversity’’ as the resource organization and organizing field visits at the brothels for the course participants; (ii) supporting 200 young transgender on basic life skill for psychosocial wellbeing through a two days training program; (iii) clear the ambiguity among the government officials that they perceived by the term Hijra (transgender); (iv) demonstration on 16 days activism against gender based violence; (v) performing an interactive theatre drama show for the national launch of Safe Cities for Women Campaign; (vi) developing the understanding of activist members about the life, problems, partnership and rights of sexual minority groups and their partners through International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO); (vii) organizing a press conference on the occasion of recognition of Hijra community as ‘Third Gender”; and conducting participatory situation assessment to explore and expand the working areas and undertake right base initiative to community strengthening, reducing stigma and discrimination and minimizing risk of the further spread of HIV for sexual minority ‘Hijra’ in Bangladesh.
